About Our Team

HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

Spoken Heroes was established on January 12, 2024, by founder Steven McCoy and co-founder Ste’fon Ikner. Steven, an accomplished journalist and Disney Alumni, encountered the challenges of Usher Syndrome-a retinal eye disease leading to blindness and hearing loss. Despite facing adversity, ableism, and discrimination, Steven persevered, ultimately making history as the world’s first black Deaf Blind journalist. Along his journey, Steven crossed paths with Ste’fon Ikner, the founder of Ikner Consultant Group, at a business event. Recognizing their shared vision and the strength in collaboration, they formed a powerful partnership.

Ste’fon undenvent specialized training to become Steven’s official Support Service Provider, offering professional assistance and navigation support. The profound bond and shared passion between Steven and Ste’fon became the driving force behind Spoken Heroes. Their mission is to inspire unity and bridge the gap between abled and disabled individuals, empowering the disabled community, promoting inclusivity, and fostering a society where everyone can unite and succeed despite their challenges.

Spoken Heroes has achieved significant milestones, including partnerships and relationships with esteemed organizations and brands such as ROC NATION, OrCam, and the New York City Department of Social Services. These collaborations have enabled Spoken Heroes to expand its reach, access valuable resources, and further its mission of empowerment and inclusivity.

In addition to its organizational achievements, Spoken Heroes founder Steven McCoy serves as the Facilitator for the National Federation for the Blind of New Jersey DeafBlind Group, where he inspires and supports the DeafBlind community, providing invaluable resources and advocacy. Through his dedication and leadership, Steven continues to make a meaningful impact within the community, exemplifying Spoken Heroes’ core values and mission.
