The Heart of Spoken Heroes

Through his journey, Steven’s experiences inspired the formation of Spoken Heroes, an organization with a mission to inspire unity, bridge the gap between abled and disabled individuals, empower the disabled community, promote inclusivity, and foster a society where everyone can unite and succeed despite their challenges. Founded by Steven McCoy, an award-winning journalist and national disability advocate who made history as the world’s first Black DeafBlind journalist, Spoken Heroes was created to bridge the gap between the disability and able-bodied communities by expanding access to opportunity, fostering inclusion, and building pathways to lifelong success. Today, we are proud to serve as an approved provider of state-supported workforce development and transition services, partnering with schools, employers, government agencies, and community organizations to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Through career readiness training, self-advocacy, mentorship, assistive technology, storytelling, internships, strategic partnerships, and parent and family support, we equip individuals and their support networks with the tools, resources, and confidence to succeed.

Together, we are creating a future where accessibility, opportunity, and belonging are available to everyone.
